Ameen Sayani was the man who composed a masterpiece on the airwaves: Nisha Narayanan

I hail from a family of radio broadcasters and the cumulative number of years that we have belonged to this industry has been over 75 years.

Over the years, while I was learning and working with radio, I’ve met Ameen Sayani multiple times, and it’s been an honour. As a radio broadcaster, he remains etched in my core memory because he made people believe that one voice could make a difference. And honestly, that has been a game-changer.

Every Wednesday evening, the people would gather to hear the iconic lines: 'Jee haan bhaiyoo aur behnoo, main hoon apka dost Ameen Sayani aur aap sunn rahein hain Binaca Geetmala!' (Yes, brothers and sisters, I am your friend Ameen Sayani and you have been listening to Binaka Geetmala!) It became a cultural phenomenon.

He united people through the universal language of music that became a tradition and continues to be a sacred part of our lives.

Ameen Sayani was the man who composed a masterpiece on the airwaves that outshined for years, touching every soul of our nation. I extend my deepest condolences to the legendary radio presenter behind the timeless 'Binaca Geetmala.'

It is overwhelming to bid farewell to the legend whose legacy lives is the foundation of our beloved industry.

Rest in peace, Ameen Sayani.
