Twitch names Spotify's Sunita Kaur as first APAC MD

Twitch has hired Spotify's Sunita Kaur as its first APAC managing director as it looks to deepen its investment in the region.

Kaur will be based in Twitch’s Singapore office and will be tasked with supporting growth of the Twitch community in the region, including with content creators, media partners, agencies, advertisers, publishers and developers.

"Asia is a burgeoning region for user-generated live content and gaming, and we are excited to deepen our investments with Sunita’s hire” said Sara Clemens, COO of Twitch. “Sunita’s 20 years of experience in digital advertising and online services and communities that serve content creators in APAC make her the perfect leader for Twitch’s business in the region."

She joins the gaming platform after six years at Spotify where she was managing director of Southeast Asia and then VP of revenue in APAC. During her tenure, she expanded the music streaming service across Asia, leading launches in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Kaur was a speaker at Campaign's Women Leading Change conference in 2019.

Previously, she held executive roles across Asia at Facebook, Microsoft, and Forbes.

Kaur commented: "Twitch is proof that entertainment and media consumption habits around the world, including in APAC, have foundationally changed. Young consumers in APAC are cutting the cord and are influenced by social media where the audience expects to play a part in entertainment they watch. This means the unique Twitch entertainment experience, one that fosters collaboration and community between content creator and audience, can support this consumer-led revolution of how content is delivered."
