cannes lions 2008
Wish you were here?
Cannes is receiving many more entrants from developing economies – and some of them could be ready to give UK agencies a run for their money. Representatives of four overseas shops offer their global perspective of the festival. It’s sunny outside and there’s rosé wine to be drunk, but, Philip Thomas notes, "they’re not doing any of it".
Moot question: whose Cannes is it, anyway?
Who doesn’t want to be part of a winning team? (Especially after the victory). We all do.I remember some years ago when I went on my first visit to Cannes, a bunch of us from different agencies were all at the one place that was a tradition for Indians to stay in: Touring Hotel . A bit poky with no ACs (no fans either), but brilliantly located, close to all the action. And what the heck, we were hardly ever there in the rooms.

JWT's 'Lead India' campaign wins Grand Prix at Cannes
JWT India’s ‘Lead India’ campaign for Bennett Coleman has won the Grand Prix in the Direct Awards category at the Cannes Promo and Direct Lions awards 2008 held on Monday night. It was a proud moment for India’s Adland who cut across agency lines to cheer the JWT team, which went up on stage to receive the Grand Prix Lion, holding aloft the Indian tricolor. Among those who went up to the stage included The Times Group's Bhaskar Das, JWT's Colvyn Harris, Agnello Dias and the team at JWT. Truly an inspiring moment for all the Indians assembled there.
