Kerala Kaumudi’s Kaumudy TV goes on air

Channel bets on ‘differentiated content’ to drive in viewership

Kerala Kaumudi’s Kaumudy TV goes on air

Malayalam daily Kerala Kaumudi officially launched its news and entertainment channel Kaumudy TV on 5 May, after almost a year’s dry run.  The channel’s logo was unveiled by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over a year ago when Kerala Kaumudi was celebrating its centenary.

Speaking with Campaign India, A C Reji, head, Kaumudy Broadcasting, the broadcasting division of Kerala Kaumudi, said that the channel was an extension of group’s flagship publication ‘Kerala Kumudi’ and mid-day tabloid `Flash’. According to him, the channel is different from other existing channels in terms of presentation and content.

He further said that the subject and themes of Kaumudy TV’s reality shows are different from what the existing channels offer. Kerala Kaumudi has taken up extensive marketing initiative through group publications, hoardings and road shows to promote the channel.

The programme menu comprises news, talk shows, interview-based shows and entertainment shows. There is a five to six minute news bulletin every two hours. Kaumudy TV is also available in USA and the Middle-East, informed Reji.

Kaumudy TV will be competing with the likes of Surya, Asianet, Mazhavil Manorama, Kairali, Amrita, Jeevan and the more recently launched JaiHind and MediaOne.
