Brands warm up to Independence Day

Lifebuoy ties up with Star's 'Saath Hai Hum Uttarakhand', Worldoo.com's crowdsourced anthem, Aspri offers discounts, Sikka's tribute to patriotism and Quikr's freedom offer

Brands warm up to Independence Day

Indian brands have warmed up to Independence Day with several initiatives. We've compiled a few of those here.

Star India

Hindustan Unilever brand Lifebuoy has lent support to Star India’s initiative Saath Hain Hum Uttarakhand to garner support and gather funds for the victims of floods that ravaged the State this June. Lifebuoy is the presenting sponsor for Star India’s Independence Day event, a seven-hour programming initiative. Advertising and sponsorship revenue will be channelled to relief work in the hill-state through two civil society organisations - Himmotthan Society and People's Science Institute.

The event will be broadcast live on Star Plus, Star Utsav, Life OK, Channel V and Star Pravah. The end-use of funds will be overseen by a body of independent auditors, informed the channel.

Star India and Amitabh Bachchan had also created a public service message for flood-hit Uttarakhand, penned by Ogilvy & Mather.

Quikr.com

Initiatives big and small are aplenty. Quikr.com has launched a freedom offer for its users. Participants could win upto Rs 1000 worth of talk time vouchers from Quikr while positing a free ad on the website on 15 August 2013, through a lucky draw.

Worldoo.com

Talenthouse crowd sourced a version of the Indian national anthem (currently playing at PVR cinemas in Mumbai). The anthem will be played on Worldoo.com on Indpendence Day. Kids will be asked questions pertaining to the freedom fighters portrayed in the anthem along with other trivia on Indian independence.

Aspri Spirits

In the lead up to Independence Day, Aspri Spirit offered a 5 per cent discount for the brand's Facebook fans. The company, whichoffers brands like Peroni, Dewars, Roberto Cavalli and Sky Vodka among others, offered dial in numbers on its Facebook fan page. People could dial in to avail the five per cent discount/ ace your order right away!
