The dates for the 2012 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity have been rescheduled back to the usual third week in June next year. This follows the decision by the city of Cannes to postpone the refurbishment to the Palais des Festivals.
Earlier this year, the organisers of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity had agreed to move the dates of the 2012 event two weeks earlier than usual to allow for improvements to be made to the Palais des Festivals. The city of Cannes has now announced that for various internal and external reasons the proposed upgrade works of the Palais des Festivals have now been postponed, to avoid a crossover with the end of the Cannes Film Festival, Cannes Lions will revert to the usual dates (17-23 June 2012) in the third week of June.
Commenting on the development, Philip Thomas, Cannes Lions, chief executive officer, said, "We apologise to those who may have already made plans around the earlier dates, but after consulting with many people in the industry, there was an overwhelming view that our delegates would prefer to revert to the traditional Cannes Lions date. A time slot that has been in peoples’ diaries for the best part of 60 years."
