In a move set to energise India’s post-production industry, internationally acclaimed senior colourist Nicola Gasparri has officially joined Studio Skwer, Mumbai’s go-to destination for high-end colour grading. Known for its craftsmanship and creative integrity, Studio Skwer has quickly carved a niche as the post-production studio of choice for India’s top filmmakers, advertising agencies, and production powerhouses.

Founded in 2021 by Vineesh Vijayan and Ranjan Karkera, Studio Skwer was established with a clear mission to shift the focus from volume-driven outputs to artful, detail-oriented storytelling. In just four years, the studio has emerged as a creative force, trusted by brands and storytellers alike for its signature blend of aesthetic precision and narrative impact.

Gasparri’s arrival marks a significant moment not just for Studio Skwer, but for India’s creative community. After five illustrious years in Shanghai, where he was part of the elite colour team at global post giant MPC/The Mill, Gasparri returns with an enriched global perspective. During his time abroad, he worked on major campaigns for Apple, Nike, Mercedes, Moncler, and Huawei, and collaborated with cinematic luminaries such as Wong Kar Wai and Adam Liu, an experience that refined his instinct for emotionally textured, culturally resonant colour work.

Excited about Gasparri’s return, Vineesh Vijayan, co-founder and senior colourist at Studio Skwer, said, “Nicola is a world-class talent with a rare blend of global experience and emotional instinct. His return to India marks a new chapter for us and an exciting one for our clients.”

His return also signals a homecoming. Between 2015 and 2019, Gasparri played a vital role in shaping Mumbai’s commercial film landscape, working with noted Indian directors like Prasoon Pandey, Bharat Sikka, and Aakash Bhatia. His portfolio during that time included standout campaigns for H&M, Coca-Cola, Adidas, and Samsung, solidifying his status as one of Asia’s top colourists. You can check out his work here.

What drew Gasparri back was a shared creative ethos. Studio Skwer’s philosophy, rooted in craft-first thinking and a deep respect for visual storytelling, mirrors his own. The studio boasts a cutting-edge setup and a senior team of colourists responsible for iconic campaigns across sectors. Their roster includes standout projects for Netflix, Google, Royal Enfield, Mahindra, Myntra, Amazon, and Meta, to name just a few.

Ranjan Karkera, co-founder and business director, concluded, “Studio Skwer was built to raise the bar for post-production in India. Nicola’s joining is not just a collaboration—it’s a statement of our intent to push creative boundaries even further.”

The studio’s partnerships also extend to some of the most respected production houses in the country—Nirvana Films, Hungry Films, Good Morning Films, Bang Bang MediaCorp, and more—further proof of their creative credibility and technical prowess.

Gasparri’s addition to the team is both a full-circle moment and a strategic leap forward. With his global experience and sharp visual intuition, he is poised to help Studio Skwer push the envelope further, bringing world-class standards to local storytelling and vice versa.

As Studio Skwer continues to set benchmarks in India’s post-production space, Gasparri’s joining marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. With his arrival, the studio reaffirms its commitment to elevating the visual narrative, one meticulously graded frame at a time.

Talking about his return and joining Studio Skwer, Gasparri said, “Returning to Mumbai and joining Studio Skwer represents a full-circle moment for me. Their passion for storytelling through colour mirrors my own. It’s the kind of place where craft is valued above all else, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
