Soccer, with a reach of 155 million viewers, surpassed Wrestling in 2010, while Cricket still rules with a reach of 176 million viewers

Soccer is the second-most watched sport in India after Cricket

Soccer has toppled Wrestling as the second-most watched sport in India according to TAM Sports’ reports. The data made available by TAM Media Research indicates that Cricket continues to be the most watched sport with a reach of 176 million viewers in 2010, a substantial increase from 156 million viewers registered in 2009 and 122 million viewers registered in 2008.

Wrestling, which used to be the preferred sport after Cricket, has dropped from 132 million in 2009 to 120 million in 2010. The major gainer in viewership has been soccer, with a significant increase in viewership over the years. Registering 83 million in 2008, the sport reached 124 million viewers in 2009, and, in 2010, has replaced Wrestling for the second spot with 155 million viewers.

Motorsports (Car/Bike racing) and Tennis with 118 million and 95 million viewers completed the top five most viewed sports in India for 2010.
