Talkwalker’s Battle of the Brands: Flipkart vs Amazon

A weekly round up of the action in the social media space

Talkwalker’s Battle of the Brands: Flipkart vs Amazon
With the festive season kicking off, it’s all about promotions and offers. The online retail giants have gone all out again with their discounts and festivals. And the winner of course is the consumer! We love discounts – especially when it comes to pocket friendly presents. Flipkart and Amazon are the undoubted market leaders when it comes to online retail and this year too, they haven’t disappointed us. So, without further ado, let’s have a look at the buzz around the two giants.

Talkwalker, a social media analytics company, based in Luxembourg, takes a closer look at the buzz, using their platform. Talkwalker Analytics analyzes the performance of mentions all over the internet and provides key metrics such as engagement, related themes, demographic data, geographic data and influencer data.

Mentions

Both brands are neck to neck in terms of mentions. Understandably, the Amazon giant has the lion’s share of the mentions however we do see a steep peak for Flipkart’s mentions in the last few days. A big cause for the peak is the new RedMi phones that were launched just in time for Diwali and are available on Flipkart. Additionally, the #BigBillionDay sale is in large part for the surge in mentions for Flipkart in September.
Emojis:

Who doesn’t love a good new purchase? It seems everyone. Looking at the emoji clouds for both players, we’re able to see that it’s mainly positive emojis that are prominently featured. For Flipkart, the most used emoji is the heart – which makes absolute sense! For amazon, it’s the grateful emoji followed by the “lit” emoji and the “heart” emoji that have been used the most. But the general theme is common between both – it’s positive. Retail therapy all the way!
