WagonR's new ad uses Madhavan's influence

Maruti Suzuki WagonR has launched its new campaign which highlights WagonR’s new tagline being - 'smart ideas lead the world'.

R Madhavan, who was recently appointed brand ambassador for WagonR tries to refresh the brand's values and attempts to add some youthfulness to the brand.

Shashank Srivastava, chief general manager, Maruti Suzuki said, "Our research established that a famous face works well for a brand if both are just the right fit for each other. We feel that associating with a personality such as Madhavan will certainly reinforce the brand values of WagonR with the TG at an all-India level. Additionally, the tie-up is going to give a boost to WagonR’s key performance indicators in key southern cities such as Bengalaru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Cochin etc."

He further added, "WagonR sales are outstanding across India. Going forward, we feel, the brand shall have an exceptional foothold in the Southern market as well. Given the popularity of Madhavan in the South, the masses will relate to the brand more strongly with a local icon becoming the Face of the Brand," he added.

The TVC opens on Madhavan playing the part of a successful farm owner who is being interviewed by a reporter about where his success story actually began. He points to an apple in his hand and tells her that this is where the success story began. As she looks at him, bewildered, where Madhavan is shown eating an apple at a supermarket. He does not quite like the taste and realises that it doesn't taste natural. He gets inspired to take a loan and start a farm of his own where he can grow apples. As he surveys the land where he has decided to set up the farm, he gets an idea to start an organic farm and eventually becomes successful. Surveying his farm, the reporter asks him incredulously whether he has managed all this on his own. He smiles, pats his WagonR and shakes his head saying 'No'. The voiceover in the end says 'smart ideas lead the world'. The objective was to communicate the fact that WagonR owners make smart decisions.
