Sony Six rides on multi-faceted tennis ball, to drive home Champions Tennis League

Watch the TVC conceptualised by Havas Worldwide here

Sony Six has rolled out an ad film for the upcoming inaugural Champions Tennis League. The film has been conceptualised by Havas Worldwide and went on air on 1 November.

The film gives the audiences a snapshot of all the ways in which a tennis ball is used in India, but reassures them that the balls will be put to the 'right use' during the Champions Tennis League.

The film begins with a voice over talking about how in our country, tennis balls are used for everything other than tennis as we see a juggler and a group of galli cricketers play with them. Set against the visual of a small play ground, a voice over talks about how the balls are used to play a lot of school yard games that transform them into tools to pelt people. The voice over comments on how, balls can also be used as styling accessories as the film cuts to a local auto rickshaw driver. A young man hiding a love letter inside the ball is on screen, and the voiceover talks about how tennis balls can be used to express love.

Finally, the voice over says that things are about to change as a ball is enters a house and an angry man runs out to the balcony yelling, “Cricket, poora din Cricket” (Cricket all day long). To the man’s amazement, it is not a group of cricketers who’ve hit the ball into his house, but a young group of children with tennis racquets in hand.

The film ends with a super of the Champions Tennis League.

Prasana Krishnan, business head, Sony Six, said, “Through the years, the tennis ball has come to be synonymous with a host of activities like cricket, lagori and juggling amongst many other outdoor activities. It presents an autonomous manifestation of sportiness. What we have tried to do through this TVC is not only show the versatility of the ball but connect it to its fundamental use, which lies in the game of tennis, highlighting the first ever international tennis league to be hosted in India.”

Vivek Rao, executive creative director, Havas Worldwide, added, “The team came up with a script that had a simple, wonderful insight. In India a tennis ball has been omnipresent in our lives since our childhood for reasons other than the game of tennis. Finally here's a reason to see it for what it's really meant for - tennis! And the Champions Tennis League has the right pros to make it a must-watch tennis league. The 'extreme slow motion' treatment recommended by the director was to ensure that the hero very clearly was the Tennis Ball.”
