Sourav Ganguly does a huge unexpected release for Meesho

The e-commerce platform was working on a teaser campaign with celebrities, before releasing the final film on 4 September

Sourav Ganguly does a huge unexpected release for Meesho
Thursday (1 September) saw social media flooded with popular Indian celebrities sharing posters of their never heard of work - which was titled ‘Mega Blockbuster’, produced by another unusual name Ohseem. These posts were put up by several actors, including Deepika Padukone, Karthi and Rashmika Mandanna, comedian Kapil Sharma and cricketer Rohit Sharma, among others.

While this left netizens guessing that the new show or movie could be a collaboration with all the actors mentioned above, one of the names did a huge reveal, albeit unintentionally.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who was also one of the celebrities in the campaign, put out the post - only with an error, that allegedly came from his social media team. The post read, “Please ensure that Meesho brand name or Meesho hashtag is nowhere mentioned in the September 1 post.”

E-commerce platform Meesho, rolled out the campaign, asking the celebrities it roped in, to avoid revealing its name in their posts. This promotional stunt went extremely sideways for the brand, and was soon deleted by Ganguly. But social media users left no stone unturned to make the error viral, by taking screenshots of his original post and spreading them all across Twitter.

It was assumed that this could’ve been a copy-paste error by Ganguly’s social media team, since celebrities involved in the stunt might have received a script to share with the poster.

However, even after the mess up, Meesho played sport for Ganguly, by defending him on Twitter.

The final campaign was released on 4 September:

This is not the first time that Ganguly’s being trolled on social media. Last year, he and Adani Wilmar’s Fortune rice bran oil - which he endorsed, were questioned for promoting heart health, soon after Ganguly suffered a heart-related ailment.
