Year-ender 2021: 'Policymakers will take note of long-pending requests from the radio industry'- Nisha Narayanan

Campaign India is ending the year by asking industry leaders about what this year taught them and an outrageous prediction for 2022.

Here's what Nisha Narayanan, director and COO, Red FM and Magic FM, had to say:

Your stand-out moment or learning from 2021?

To lead a truly resilient team which is now my moment of pride. 2021 saw Red FM belting out initiatives after initiatives, adopting new strategies to recover the losses and what came out during the whole exercise is the show of strength and resilience from the team. Many of whom, were struggling with personal problems. Yet they diverted their energies into work that is meaningful and purposeful.

The biggest learning is that no matter what you are or what you do, in the end, the only thing that matters is humility and relationships cultivated over the years that is the biggest treasure of them all.

An outrageous prediction for 2022?

The radio industry needs a level playing field in comparison to broadcasting platforms. We have cried hoarsely till the throat bled to allow news and current affairs on private FM channels and not discriminate it with other media platforms.

My outrageous prediction for the year 2022 is that the policymakers will take note of a long-pending request from the radio industry, allow news and current affairs on a private FM channel, to infuse a fresh lease of life into the sector.

Outrageous only because we are short of giving up hope of any such support from the policymakers.
