The lack of time to find a life partner is the problem addressed by Bharat Matrimony’s new commercial for their year-old service, Privilege Matrimony. Murugavel Janakiraman, chief executive officer of Bharat Matrimony, said, “For busy professionals and people at a senior level, including the parents, this service provides assisted matchmaking, where a relationship manager understands your requirement, matches profiles for you and helps you connect.”

The commercial begins with two executives in a lift. As the lift doors open at a floor, a hand slips in and gives one of the executives an envelope with a woman’s picture in it, as the other man looks intrigued. He gets even more curious as the mysterious hand gives his colleague a horoscope in the middle of a meeting, a coffee appointment through a fax machine, and a dinner meeting with the girl’s parents over the cubicle wall. At the dinner, the colleague snoops around for the source of the hand at which point, the hand comes out of a bread basket and gives him the card for Privilege Matrimony.

With this ad, the company decided to “look at the masses”, versus communicating through English publications, according to Janakiraman. Anantha Narayan, creative director of 1pointsize, the agency behind the commercial, added, “Bharat Matrimony is perceived as a south Indian portal. Hence, the brief was to create something with a pan India feel.” The ad will air on English news, lifestyle and sports channels.
