Coming after a long gap, the findings of the Indian Readership Survey 2014 survey presents a better picture for most leading Indian dailies than the figures released for 2013.
The report ‘will reflect the impact of the general election campaign on media consumption pattern during the IRS fieldwork’, informed an MRUC statement.
While the top 10 publications are all dailies, these publications have grown cumulatively at 4.75 per cent according to the study. The lone exception to the trend in the top 10 was Mathrubhumi, which lost readership marginally according to IRS 2014.

Among top 10 English dailies, all have registered growth in readership except Deccan Herald. Among top 10 Hindi dailies, Hari Bhoomi was the only publication to buck the positive growth trend.
The overall growth in media consumption as tracked by the study also indicated robust growth in print media.
The magazine story
Only one of the top 10 magazines, Manorama Thozhil Veedhi, registered a drop in readership according to the study. Besides which, all top 10 Hindi magazines grew on their 2013 readership numbers.
The Sportstar, Outlook English and Readers Digest were the three among top 10 English magazines listed by IRS 2014 to have lost readers in this round of the study.
