Gionee points to perils of going powerless, pitches Marathon M5 Plus' battery life

Watch the ad film conceptualised by Mullen Lintas here

Gionee has rolled out a film for its Marathon M5 Plus, which claims to have a long lasting battery. It has been conceptualised by Mullen Lintas.

The film features a man at a restaurant engrossed in his work. As he pores over some papers, he reaches his phone only to see that the battery is out of charge. His boss is in office, trying to reach him. When he gets a 'switched off' message, the boss' imagination runs wild. Images of his colleague suffering from a hangover and still in bed, trading secrets with a competitor, and indulging in an affair with his daughter, cross his mind. He mutters that he will fire him. Meanwhile, the oblivious employee is at the restaurant, asking the server if he has a charger for his mobile phone. The film ends with the introduction of the Gionee Marathon M5 Plus, with the 'really long battery life'.

The film was published online on 16 July 2016.

Earlier, the brand launched a #PhoneOffSochOn contest to invite ideas for its TVC. People were asked to suggest what people would think when their phone is switched off. After 30,000 entries, some of the ideas were declared as winners on 17 July.
