Cannes Lions 2009 has named the jury president of the Design and Cyber Lions category. Sylvia Vitale Rotta, chief executive officer, Team Créatif is jury president for this year’s Design Lions jury while Lars Bastholm, co-chief creative officer, AKQA will chair the Cannes 2009 Cyber Lions jury.

A consumer brands expert, Sylvia was a member of the first Cannes Design Lions jury in 2008 and was the first Eurobest Design Jury President in Stockholm last year. Talking about her appointment, Vitale Rotta said, "During these times of economic uncertainty and change, it is exciting to bring optimism and joy to consumers, clients, creatives and marketers around the world. Recognising the power of creativity and how it enriches our lives, and participating in exciting and professional events such as the 2009 Cannes Lions Festival, provides motivation and awareness of the power of creativity as a fundamental human value."

Bastholm oversees the creative departments of AKQA’s North American offices alongside his partner, Rei Inamoto. He has more than 13 years of interactive experience and is one of the most award-winning creatives in the digital marketing industry, winning no less than three Cyber Lions Grand Prix at Cannes.

"I'm honoured to be this year’s president of the Cyber Lions jury. This gig is the only thing I can think of that would make me look forward with bated breath to being locked up in a room staring at a computer screen for a week. That’s because Cyber Lions has never been more exciting. This category and what it means is in constant flux and development. I’m sure we’ll see entries that tick all the digital boxes from social media to location-aware devices, as well as some that invent boxes we haven't played in before," said Lars Bastholm on his appointment.
