Google has completed the acquisition of Fitbit, after announcing plans for the same in November 2019 for $2.1bn.
Through a blog post which has been written by Rick Osterloh, senior vice president, devices and services, Google has stated that users' privacy and security is paramount for the company and it is looking to protect health information and putting users in control of their data.
It further states that the deal is about devices, not data, and has binding commitments that confirm Fitbit users’ health and wellness data won't be used for Google ads and this data will be separated from other Google ads data.
In India, Fitbit users who used its subscription service - Fitbit Premium, were also given a reduced subscription price, down to Rs 1,000 from close to Rs 7,000.
