Power Play @ IPL 2015: 'India's good performance made us want to associate with cricket'

Sudarshan Gangrade, VP, marketing and alliances, Ola, on the brand's plans for IPL

Power Play @ IPL 2015: 'India's good performance made us want to associate with cricket'
Is this the first year Ola is associating with the IPL?

Yes. We aren't associating directly with the tournament, but we have associated with five IPL teams -- Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab. We are present pan-India through this association. We are the official cab partners for these teams.

Why IPL?

The cricket season is very important for us. With the good performance in the world cup, interest has risen in the country and we wanted to be associated with cricket.

What will be your masterstroke during the IPL?

Multiple things. We have only launched the first bit of that – Ola Matchday. On the day of the match, in the city where the match is being played, an icon comes up which gives you the chance to win free tickets. If you’re on time (11 am), you get match tickets free. It was launched a week ago, and it’s a hit. We have also given hospitality tickets to key partners (drivers or fans) through social media. This has helped us trend on social media.

Did you advertise/associate with the World Cup as well?

No.
