The Advertising Agencies Association of India has awarded the newly constituted annual 'AAAI Lifetime Achievement Award' to Ranjan Kapur, country manager-India, WPP. He will be presented with the award on 14 August, 2008 at a ceremony in Mumbai.
Kapur started his advertising career in 1966 with S.H. Bensen (now O&M). For the last ten years at O&M, he worked as its chairman. He stepped down from his position in 2003.
"There are various people who have contributed to the advertising business and have a significant role in the journey that the industry has taken to come so far. The Lifetime Achievement Award has been created to honour these people," said Madhukar Kamath, president, AAAI. He added, "Ranjan has spent ten years as chairman, O&M. He was responsible in bringing the creative centre stage. He empowered and nurtured Piyush Pandey, pushed the agency towards Cannes and various multi-faceted communication."
Kapur said, "For somebody who has been in the business since 1966, getting recognised is a very good feeling." Kapur feels that the Indian advertising industry is far better than the industry counterparts in other countries in terms of intellect.
